Sleep Paralysis

I lay in the pitch black

My eyes flicker and flutter

Awakening I am immobilized

Blankets acting as weights

pulling me deeper into murky shadow

A swift movement in the corner

Am I awake? or Dreaming?

No one is here, yet shadows dance

Tucking behind curtains

Peeking around closet doors

Fear overtakes me

a welling of force collects in my chest

a spinning motion in my stomach

shivers caress every inch of my skin

a Figure approaches swiftly

The sheets wrapping and entangle

like snakes wrapping its prey

In this bed i am consumed

I lie in wait for the end as the figure looms

Time slows to a crawl as we stand off

The fear keeps me alert

The fear feeds this unwelcomed visitor

The fear fuels my desire to escape

The fear is a symptom of Sleep Paralysis

The fear invokes my muscles to seize

The fear reminds me that there will be a tomorrow

But with nightfall comes this demon to haunt me

Internally Trapped

Deep within a dark foreboding tomb I lay.

Eyes wide as the stars above my head spin.

The cold icy water surrounding my skin is still.

Chilling my bones and numbing my limbs.

A vise tightens around my skull,

squeezing with every breath.

Nauseating pain increases as the room lightens.

I stand and walk to a large window.

Glancing out I can see a warm cup of coffee being raised.

It approaches the window and the light dims again.

As the coffee mug is set down the light comes back in a fluttering motion.

I am watching my life as a perspective piece.

Like reading a good book and relating to the main character.

You can relate to the character’s hardships but you are not them.

They will act and be themselves while you sit back and watch.

While I may have control of my life and my actions,

My mind makes sure I stay contained in my trap.

My condition works to be my prison sentence.

Do I wish for difference?

Well, Does an innocent man not long for freedom?

Anyone would choose a better life,

but that is not my dealt hand.

Instead I will lay in my cold, shivering pool.

My nerves tricking my mind every second.

My skin crawling and discolored.

My muscles involuntarily moving.

My breathing taking its own pace,

whether it be paused or increased.

I am Internally Trapped.

My body will be my tomb.

Degrading itself with the kiss of time.
